Charges brought against the father of missing Allan Bryant Jnr alleging he threatened to kill a man have been dropped.
Allan Bryant Snr said he was relieved he was no longer facing court in relation to threats he is alleged to have made against a man whose house was being searched as part of the investigation into his son’s disappearance.
He was charged with breach of the peace and threatening behaviour following the incident outside the house in the Newcastle area of Glenrothes.
Mr Bryant had gone to the property on Barnton Place on the morning of June 26, halfway through a five-week forensic search of the property, to speak to members of the investigation team.
He was arrested at his own home a short time later.
Mr Bryant’s son, Allan Jnr, has not been seen since he left Styx nightclub in Glenrothes in the early hours of November 3, 2013.
He was 23 at the time.
Allan Snr said having the charges dropped was a weight off his mind.
“Common sense has prevailed,” he said.
“I shouldn’t have been charged in the first place, to be honest with you, and if I had gone to court I would have pleaded not guilty.
“It’s a relief not to have this hanging over me now and I’m just glad Allan’s mum Marie won’t have to go to court.”
A letter to Mr Bryant, the Procurator Fiscal Depute confirmed the charges of threatening and abusive behaviour and threats to kill had been dropped.
It added: “Consideration of the report shows that the evidence is sufficient in law to justify my bringing your case before the court.
“I have decided, however, in all the present circumstances of the case, not to bring proceedings.”
