A car salesman has won praise for helping a man who feared he was suffering a heart attack, while others walked by.
Dan Saunderson saw Derek Christie, 55, leaning against a tree struggling for breath near the Kirkcaldy showroom where he works as a sales executive.
Not only did he go to his aid but he took a car from the garage, drove Derek home and stayed until he was sure he was okay.
Derek, who suffers from chronic heart failure and recently recovered from cancer, was so grateful he returned later to Specialist Cars Volkswagen, in Michelston Industrial Estate, with a bottle of champagne for Dan, 31.
He told The Courier: “I was so thankful he was there. I could have keeled over and a had a heart attack.
“In this day and age people walk past and they don’t bother.”
Derek, who is waiting to have a pacemaker fitted, took a short walk to the nearby supermarket but took a turn on the way back.
He said: “I started feeling out of breath and dizzy, and I was getting chest pains.
“I thought I was going to have a heart attack.
“I leaned against a tree and a few people walked past and didn’t do anything, then this guy came over and said ‘do you want a lift home?’.
Dan had gone to the nearby supermarket for a bite to eat when he saw Derek in trouble.
He said: “I saw a gentleman who was struggling and a couple of people walked past. I went over to ask him if he was alright then told him I would go and get a car, so I drove him home.
“I don’t think I’ve gone above and beyond, it was just my normal civic duty.”
He joked: “I hope this changes people’s perception of salesmen!”
