Tributes have been paid to Kirkcaldy man, Robert Rowan, the technical director of Brentford Football Club, who has died at the age of 28.

The English Championship club confirmed the tragic news “with the heaviest of hearts” on Tuesday afternoon in a statement on its website.

The former pupil of St Andrews High School, had been employed by Brentford for four years.

He became technical director in February after three and a half years as the club’s head of football operations.

Mr Rowan previously worked as a sporting director for Stenhousemuir FC and as a scout for the SFA and Celtic.

Rangers were also linked with a move for him.

He passed away on Monday November 12, although the full circumstances of his death have not been revealed.

Brentford said: “All at the club have been left devastated by the news.

“All our thoughts are with Robert’s wife, his family and all his friends, many of whom work at Brentford,”

Brentford’s communications officer Chris Deacon added: “Awful, devastating news today.

“A more unique character in football, you will never find.

“Such a brilliant guy to work with, to talk to and play football with.

“He will be sorely, sorely missed by everyone at Brentford.”

Celtic FC said the thoughts and prayers of everyone at the club were with Mr Rowan’s family and friends.
