Police have confirmed they are investigating a possible murder-suicide in the Fife village of Elie.
The bodies of a man and a woman were found in a flat in Links Place on Monday afternoon.
They have been named locally as former DJ Ross Thom, 39, and Valerie Richardson.
It is understood Valerie had lived in the flat for around five years and Ross stayed a few miles away in Cellardyke.
Police Scotland confirmed post-mortem examinations were carried out on Wednesday but made no further comment on the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
On Wednesday, police would only say that the deaths were being treated as “unexplained.”
However, it is understood the possibility that one of the deceased killed the other before committing suicide is a line of inquiry being followed by officers.
The entrance to the Kingdom Housing Association owned block of flats was cordoned off as crime scene officers investigated the deaths.
A forensic team turned up on Wednesday morning and could be seen taking evidence from the property.
An incident van was parked opposite the scene, and officers from Police Scotland carried out door to door inquiries.
Kingdom Housing Association said there was no concern for the safety of residents in the area.
A spokesman for Kingdom Housing Association said: “We can confirm the property is owned by Kingdom Housing Association, however given it is part of an ongoing police investigation we are unable to comment.
“However, we have been advised that there are no concerns for other residents in the area.
“It is understood a statement will be issued by the police in due course.”
The housing association flats sit in the middle of one of Fife’s most exclusive addresses, with the average house price more than £500,000.
Elie is a popular holiday destination and many properties in the village are second homes.
But the sleepy village has been the centre of police activity.
Officers were called to the flat in Links Place at around 5.10pm after a report of “concern for the occupant”.
They found the bodies of a man and woman inside.
Holidaymakers passing the crime scene expressed shock at what had happened.
Craig Alexander, who regularly visits from Bridge of Weir, said at first he could not believe it was a crime scene.
“When I saw the police cars, I thought it must be a central point for the cars to sit,” he said.
And Valerie Lawrie, who was visiting from Edinburgh, said: “It’s something that never happens here.
“Nobody bothers you. You can walk anywhere and you feel safe.
“Poor souls.”
One woman, who previously lived in the village for 60 years and was back for a visit, said: “Fancy this happening in Elie.
“Elie is not like that. People come for the peace and quiet.”
She added that many local residents were in the dark about what had happened.
“It’s shrouded in mystery,” she said.
“People don’t know about it, there’s just speculation and gossip.
“I spoke to a few people this morning and they think it’s absolutely shocking.”
