A 10k run and an outdoor film festival are among the ambitious events proposed by a new group set up to promote Levenmouth.
Food festivals, a silent disco and Christmas events are also planned by the Levenmouth Together Initiative.
The organisation has been created by local residents and business people with a view to promoting an “aspirational culture” in the area.
The aim is to deliver a new range of events to increase tourism and maximise the assets already available across Levenmouth.
Its first event will be Leven’s premier food and drink festival at the Shorehead events space on August 24, when a range of local produce and family activities will be on offer.
Work to regenerate the town centre, where there are a high number of empty shops, is also on the cards.
Morag Ferguson, head of legal and democratic services with Fife Council, said a steering group was being set up to put the group on a more formal structure.
“The steering group will take an overview of the development and regeneration of the town centre in Leven and will help to promote the wider area of Levenmouth through targeted events, as well as providing support for local events to become more high profile and sustainable,” she said.
Also in the pipeline is a plan to provide space for local entrepreneurs and social enterprises to advertise what they do.
“The physical appearance of the town centre will be part of the Levenmouth Together agenda and the group will seek to form a strong representative group of traders, who will help in the regeneration approach,” Ms Ferguson said.
“The group may also become a provider of support and advice for local businesses and assist with the provision of training and development opportunities for local workers to help promote the Leven brand.”
The group’s formation has been assisted by local improvement initiative Brag Enterprises but it is hoped it will ultimately operate as an independent organisation.
Levenmouth councillors Ken Caldwell (SNP) and Colin Davidson (Labour) have been appointed to the steering group and Fife council officials are also involved.
Labour councillor David Graham said: “This is an important organisation put together to move things forward in the area.”
