Volunteers are being sought to help open a new chapter in cancer care in Fife.
It is the result of a new partnership project between ONFife Libraries and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Now a search has been launched to find anyone who would be willing to donate some time to help people affected by cancer.
The charity is investing £240,000 to provide high quality cancer information and support in four libraries across the kingdom.
The first two spaces will open in the Jennie Lee Library in the Lochgelly Centre and in the Leven library housed in Durie Street this year.
Two others will open next year, one will be in Glenrothes.
The final location for the new service is still to be confirmed.
It has come about as many people who are affected by the disease admit they can often feel isolated and unable to access the right information and support at the right time.
To combat this there will be new volunteer-led drop in sessions at the heart of the new support which will be provided not only to people living with cancer, but also to their family, friends, carers and colleagues.
“Often the most valuable thing we can offer someone affected by cancer is our time,” said Jackie Brown, the Macmillan volunteer coordinator at ONFife Libraries.
She said that what the initiative was looking for were warm, friendly volunteers who can provide not only a listening ear over a cup of tea but who could also direct people to local and national services which may help them.
Volunteers, who must be over 18, do not need to have a knowledge of cancer or a healthcare background.
In exchange for a regular time commitment, volunteers will receive ongoing training, support and any out of pocket expenses.
She added that as well as great personal satisfaction, volunteers will be able to expand their own skills while helping people in their local communities.
