A boat which got into difficulties off the coast of Montrose sparked a full-scale emergency response on Saturday night.
Both lifeboats, a Coastguard team, three fire appliances, an ambulance and police were scrambled after the distress call was made around 9.10pm.
The crew of the Montrose Port Authority pilot boat called for help when smoke began to fill the wheelhouse.
The Ian Grant Smith lifeboat and the inshore lifeboat both went out to assist and towed the boat safely back to Montrose Port.
A spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue said the smoke was as a result of an overheated motor.
Firefighters carried out an inspection of the boat when it arrived back at the port.
Crews did not have to take any further action.
A spokesman for the Coastguard said it was likely caused by an electric fault but nobody was hurt as a result of the incident.
One witness said: “There were blue lights everywhere but luckily the boat didn’t catch fire.”
