Exam results which arrived on Tuesday are showing that the “significant progress” made in Angus in recent years has been maintained.
The local authority said it is looking forward to the release of more specific data in September which will highlight all of its school leavers’ achievement.
Children and Learning convener, councillor Mark Salmond said: “Early indications from the SQA exam results show that this year has been another really positive one for our children and young people.
“Our pupils should be very proud of themselves — all their hard work has certainly paid off.
“Praise also goes to our teaching staff, parents and carers who have supported the children over the past year.”
A recent report on attainment outcomes for Angus young people in S4-S6 in 2015/16 showed attainment had been maintained or improved across almost all indicators.
Meanwhile, there were celebrations across Aberdeenshire with confirmation that half of S4 pupils achieved five or more National 5 qualifications which was up 2% compared with the previous year.
Aberdeenshire Council’s Education and Children’s Services Committee Chair, Councillor Gillian Owen said: “It is fantastic news that so many S4 pupils in Aberdeenshire have done so well.
“This year’s results show that Aberdeenshire compares favourably with other part of Scotland and highlights the hard work pupils, parents, teachers and carers have put in to achieving what are excellent exam results.”
The percentage of S5 pupils awarded three or more Highers in one sitting was 43% a 4% increase compared with 2016.
Furthermore, the percentage of S6 pupils who gained five or more Highers at the end of S6 was 37% which is a 3% rise in comparison with the previous year.
