Vehicle on its side and road closed following railway bridge crash involving lorry and van

The road from Montrose to Hillside has been closed following a crash at a nearby railway bridge.

The HGV driver was injured following the accident which happened around 11am.

The accident involved a van and an HGV lorry.

A railway bridge was initially struck on the A937 in Hillside with the road left blocked.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene.

One of the vehicles was left on its side under the bridge with the van left wrecked.

The van driver got out before firefighters arrived.

The HGV driver was then cut free from his vehicle and taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

Local diversions are in place with the road closed at Borrowfield/ Newhame Road.

Police have asked motorists to avoid the area.

Tayside Police Division posted: “The road from Montrose to Hillside is currently closed following a road traffic collision between a van and an HGV.

“A rail bridge was initially struck, the road is blocked and emergency services are on the scene. One person is thought to be injured.

“Local diversions are in place with the road closed at Borrowfield/Newhame Road. Please try to avoid the area if you can.”
