A Montrose woman has been named as the victim of a crash on one of Scotland’s busiest roads.
Erin Dewar’s silver Ford Fiesta left the northbound M9 Bridge of Allan to Edinburgh road near Cambusbarron and collided with a tree on Wednesday, March 13.
She was found in the vehicle at about 10.30pm.
The 28-year-old was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and died on the morning of Thursday, March 14.
In a statement released through Police Scotland, Erin’s devastated family paid tribute to the emergency services and a lorry driver who stayed by her side following the M9 crash.
They said: “We are heartbroken at the loss of Erin, a mummy, daughter, sister and friend.
“Her death has come as a complete shock to us all and we will miss her dearly.
“We would like to thank all emergency services involved and, of course, the driver of the lorry that stayed with her whilst they tried to save her life.
“The family would also like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support and kind messages.”
Many have taken to social media to pay tribute to Erin.
Posting on Facebook, Erin’s auntie Emma-Jayne Dewar said: “Still don’t want too believe this is my beautiful niece Erin.”
Jacqueline Mcbain added: “RIP Erin thoughts with the family at this sad time.”
Jimmy Ballie said: “This is so tragic and so sad, a young woman only 28-year-old with everything in life to look forward to, RIP.”
Lizzie Bradburn posted: “Going to be sadly missed by the whole town.”
Emma Knox added: “So very sad to read this, thoughts are with all her family and friends. Beautiful young lady.”
Susan Spink said: “So so sad. Thoughts with all her family and close friends.”
The M9 was closed for seven-and-a-half hours following the crash.
Police say their inquiries into the “circumstances surrounding the collision” are on-going.
