A Dundee councillor has welcomed planned resurfacing works to a busy Whitfield road.
A section of Drumgeith Road will be closed for three weeks from August 22 to allow major resurfacing works to be carried out.
The road will be closed to traffic, except for access, from Ballumbie Road to Whitfield Drive.
Works have been budgeted to cost £220,000.
Labour councillor Brian Gordon said “any time” was a good time to repair road surfaces.
He said: “We get complaints regularly about the state of carriageway surfaces from all over the city.
“The planned repair work to the surface of the road on Drumgeith Road is quite welcome, and it is good news that it is going to be done.
“Any time is a good time to repair and resurface damaged roads.
“The only concern I would have is if the work coincides with cabling work that is due to be carried out on Longhaugh Road.
“If the works are carried out at the same time then I would foresee a difficulty with congestion.
“The new layouts of streets in Whitfield should also mean people will be able to navigate around the roadworks.
“If commuters take the new road by the community hub, they will be able to bypass the closed road.”
The council have confirmed access will be given to those who need to access businesses in the Forties Road area.
Access will also be made available to the Baldovie Recycling Centre on Piper Street.
A Dundee City Council spokesperson said: “This major £220,000 road maintenance project is scheduled to last for three weeks, with diversions for through traffic via Baldovie Road and Balunie Drive in place which will be signed.
“Access will be maintained from the east for companies with premises in Forties Road during the duration of the works.
“People using the Baldovie Recycling Centre in Piper Street will also gain access from the east.”
The planned closure of Monifieth Recycling Centre has led Dundee City Council to consider jointly operating the Baldovie Recycling Centre in conjunction with Angus Council.
Under the arrangement, Monifieth and south Angus residents would be served by the Dundee centre.
