Following the news that Dundee City Council could potentially sell the Belmont Estate, we’ve decided to dig out some photographs from its fascinating history.
Many locals have fond memories of the beauty spot, which has been the home of an outdoor camp offering a host of activities for years.
The 51-acre site near Meigle was gifted to the local authority almost one hundred years ago, and is home the the 18th-century Belmont Castle.
The estate was once the home of Liberal Democrat Prime Minister Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman.
Handed to the authority by the Caird family in 1918, the council is now looking to offload the land as it argues it costs them a significant sum to maintain and does not directly benefit the citizens of Dundee.
