Hundreds of runners in Christmas outfits took over Dundee city centre as part of the city’s first-ever Santa Dash.
Around 700 people of all ages took part in the event, which raised money for the ARCHIE Foundation’s Tayside children’s hospital appeal.
The runners, dressed in Santa suits, warmed up in City Square before making their way across the Murraygate and Panmure Street, going up Constitution Road and returning to City Square via West Bell Street and Bank Street.
Cassie Thompson, the ARCHIE Tayside Foundation’s director of fundraising, said: “The aim if this event was to raise money towards a brand new operating theatre suite for children.
“We need to raise £2 million, which we have been doing since 2014 and we are over half-way there.
“We had over 700 people turn out for the Santa Dash, which is great. Our target was 500, so it is well over what we expected. The weather was sunny too.
“We would like to ask the community to continue to support the appeal in any way they can.”
The run was 4km in total, with adults, children and even dogs in costumes taking part.
Grove Academy put forward a team of 45 staff and pupils.
Speaking before setting off, Alison McGinness, a pupil support worker at the school, said: “The kids were so excited to sign up for this.
“It’s something a bit different, and a fun way to raise money.
“Some people in our team will run and some will walk briskly – it’s all about having fun.”
Another participant was Glen Alexander, 45, who came along with daughter Lara Alexander, aged nine.
He said: “We saw an advert for the Santa Dash in the paper and decided to take part as it’s for an excellent cause.
“I haven’t trained for it specifically but I keep fit generally. It’s great to have something like this for the first time in Dundee.”
