Police are investigating the death of a Kirkcaldy man who collapsed in the street on Saturday.

Father of two Darren Adie was found unconscious in Tweed Avenue at around 6.45pm and later died in hospital.

Local sources said the 42-year-old had been attacked with a knife.

Police confirmed Mr Adie’s death was being treated as suspicious.

An area of Tweed Avenue in the Gallatown was cordoned off, and a forensic tent put up.

Friend Shaun Aitchison sent his condolences to Mr Adie’s family.

He said: “I’ve known him most of my life. He was always nice to me and was a good dad to his kids.”

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “He was walking down from the lane and he just dropped.

“He had supposedly been stabbed.”

Mr Adie made visits to the Ladbrokes betting shop in St Clair Street and was well known in the area.

The neighbour added: “I think he’ll get a good send off.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Kirkcaldy are investigating after a 42-year-old man was found unconscious on Tweed Avenue, close to the junction with Lawson Street, around 6.45pm on Saturday May 28.”

He was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police Inspector Gary Combe of Kirkcaldy Police Station said: “Our inquiries are at an early stage and we would appeal to anyone with information that can assist us to please come forward.

“There will be a police presence in the area during the early stages of this inquiry with high visibility reassurance patrols.

“We are grateful for the support and cooperation of the local community.

“Anyone with information or concerns is encouraged to speak to an officer or alternatively call Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
