Man dies after being pulled from Fife harbour

A 65-year-old man has died after being plucked from the water at Burntisland harbour.

Emergency services raced to the scene at around 10.40am after a member of the public spotted the man lying face down in the water.

A local boat managed to retrieve the man from the water and immediately began CPR.

The Kinghorn lifeboat, Scottish Ambulance Service, Police Scotland and the Coastguard helicopter arrived on scene a short time later.

The pensioner, who has not been named, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene before being flown to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

A spokeswoman for HM Coastguard sad: “We received a 999 call from a member of the public just after 10:40 this morning, saying that they could see a person in the water at Burntisland Harbour.

“The HM Coastguard Search and Rescue Helicopter based at Prestwick, Kinghorn lifeboat, Coastguard Rescue Teams from Kinghorn and South Queensferry, Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service were all sent to the scene.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Fife were called to the harbour area of Burntisland following reports of concern for a person in the water at around 10.50am on Friday August 24.

“A 65-year-old man was removed from the water and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Inquires are on-going.”
