Scotland rugby legend and head coach Gregor Townsend will be in St Andrews on Tuesday for the St Andrews Rotary Club’s 2018 Look Who’s Talking event.
Townsend, who is looking forward to the Rugby World Cup in Japan, will talk about his playing and coaching career and will answer questions from the audience at the event in the Booth Lecture Theatre from 7.30pm.
The evening of conversation will raise funds from the Arclight project, which is an innovative new low cost solar powered eye and ear diagnostic tool which was developed by staff in the University of St Andrews’ Medical Faculty for use in developing countries.
Through the Arclight project, The Rotary Club of St Andrews aims to make the Arclight available to 3,000 health care workers in Malawi, where as many as 30% of the population suffer from eye problems, which can include causes of blindness such as cataract, glaucoma and trachoma that can be treated if diagnosed early.
Malawian children often suffer from treatable eye disease that can even lead to early death.
Look Who’s Talking is a well-established series of fundraising events hosted by the Rotary Club of St Andrews, and organisers hope this year will attract the biggest response yet.
Former Scotland player Scott Lawson, capped 47 times for his country, will join Townsend on stage, with renowned physics professor Wilson Sibbett chairing the Q&A session.
