A pair of Perth takeaways are appealing for volunteer drivers to help them deliver free meals to vulnerable residents on Mothers’ Day

China China boss Pete Chan is teaming up with management at The Fish and Chip Company across the road to deliver complimentary food on Mothers’ Day to self-isolating residents nominated by their loved ones.

Mr Chan posted a video on Facebook asking for orders to be placed through the recently launched Coronavirus Support in Perthshire page.

The businessman also says he’s considering switching on Craigie’s Christmas lights if self-isolation becomes mandatory.

He said: “We’re suggesting putting Christmas lights on if we do come to a lockdown to lift the spirits within the community.

“On Sunday, it’s Mothering Sunday. Many of the restaurants here have had cancellations or been forced to close. But it’s still Mothering Sunday.

“Given the powers that be, if we’re still open, we hope to give something back to the community.

“My mum’s in a care home. I’ve not seen her in three weeks, which is for her own safety, and I recognise and respect that.”

Mr Chan is now looking for a team of drivers to help deliver complimentary food on Sunday.

“If you have any old folks, living on their own or vulnerable who have been self-isolating, what we would like to do is take them some food,” he added.

“Myself and Michael and Charlene at the Fish and Chip Company in Craigie are hoping to prepare some food to donate to people you recommend.

“We’re going to need a couple of drivers who have been screened and not been in contact with people [diagnosed with coronavirus] for Sunday.

“We’re hoping to deliver food between 4pm and 6pm. We’ll cook it, make it safe and deliver it to your friends’ doorsteps.”
