A Perth business owner was filmed swimming to his cafe this morning as widespread flooding left many parts of the city centre under water.
Frank Burgerseed took the unusual step to help save his Pavilion Cafe on South Inch after flood waters crept up to the doorway of the eatery.
The cafe owner and his staff were out at 5am transporting sandbags across the flooded area of the South Inch on a rowing boat to prevent flood waters from entering the building.
Frank told The Courier: “The Pavilion is lucky, we got there just in time.
“We got sandbags and we were getting them over in a rowing boat and managed to get them across.
“The water was millimetres from getting in.
“We went down at 5am this morning, it was a great team effort.
“We got over and turned around and the water was right at the door but we managed to save the Pavilion.”
Frank decided swimming was the best option as he was already soaked from trying to walk to his business.
He said: “I was wading over and it (the water) was up to my waist so I decided just to swim.”
