Two men have had to be cut free from their vehicles following a serious accident south of Dunblane on Thursday evening.
The crash, involving a heavy goods vehicle, a Mercedes Sprinter van and a Honda Civic, took place at around 6.20pm on the southbound A9 near the Keir roundabout.
Fire crews from Dunblane, Doune, Bridge of Allan and Stirling all attended and the road was closed in both directions for some time as emergency workers treated those involved.
Two men were said to be trapped in their vehicles, while another driver was described as “walking wounded”.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews used stabilising and hydraulic cutting equipment to free the injured pair.
An air ambulance – Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance Helimed 76, based at Perth – was called upon to take at least one of the men to hospital and the affected stretch of the A9 northbound had to be closed temporarily to allow the helicopter to land, although the extent of any injuries is not yet known.
The helicopter is understood to have left the scene shortly before 8pm, but the road remains closed in both directions well into the night.
The accident caused lengthy delays, particularly for motorists travelling south from Perthshire, and police were on the scene directing traffic and helping to safely turn stranded motorists around.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland thanked members of the public for their patience.
