One dead following Perthshire house fire

One person has died following a blaze at a Perthshire home.

Emergency services were scrambled to the property at Fortingall, near Aberfeldy at 7.15am.

An investigation into the incident is being carried out.

A police statement on the incident read: “Police Scotland, along with other emergencies services were called to a serious house fire at 7.15am this morning (Friday, December 21) in Fortingall near Aberfeldy.

“A person has sadly died and formal identification has not taken place.

“Inquiries are at a very early stage and a joint investigation with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will be carried out.”

Gordon Pryde, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Local Senior Officer for Perth and Kinross, Angus and Dundee, said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 7.15am on Friday, December 21 to reports of a dwelling fire in Perthshire.

“Operations Control mobilised three fires engines to Fortingall near Aberfeldy, where a fire had taken hold within a single-storey cottage.”

He said: “Sadly a person was found to have passed away within the property, and our thoughts are with those affected at this time.

“Firefighters remain in attendance, dampening down remaining hotspots.

“A joint investigation between SFRS and Police Scotland will be carried out in due course.”
