Police have launched an investigation after a Spar shop in Inchture was raided for the third time in four months.

The store on Main Street was broken into during the early hours of this morning.

The same supermarket was raided twice late last year in October and November.

During the November break-in thieves  targeted a “specific part of the store”, disregarding other valuable items as they stole a quantity of cash.

It is not yet known what was taken in last night’s raid.

Following the latest robbery local Councillor Angus Forbes called for more foot patrols in the area.

Mr Forbes said: “I was saddened to hear that the Inchture Spar shop had been broken into again, this is the third time in as many months.

“I really feel for Gordon and his family who own the shop, they are trying hard to provide a service in the village and just a few months ago they agreed to install and host the village defibrillator on their shop wall at their own expense.

“The last time this happened I wrote to Police Scotland and asked them to provide more patrols in the village, in fairness to them that did happen for a while.

“I will be contacting them again to understand what has happened here and to see what they plan for Inchture in the future in regard to patrols.

“I sincerely hope the perpetrators are caught soon and brought to justice as swiftly as possible.

“Inchture is normally an area of very low crime but the last few months have changed that.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland are investigating a break-in to the Spar store in Inchture which happened about 1.50 am.

“Enquiries are at an early stage, and we would ask anyone with any information that could assist our enquiries to call 101 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
