East Fife goal hero Liam Watt hoping Hearts come up against brick wall

Dundee United came up against a brick wall called East Fife and Liam Watt hopes Hearts will also fail to knock it down.

The Fifers celebrated a historic 2-0 victory over the Tangerines at Tannadice on Tuesday night in the Betfred Cup to set themselves up for a tantalising Group A final game against the Jam Tarts at home on Saturday.

Watt, who also works as a labourer, was one of their heroes on the trip across the Tay, scoring a superb second goal to add to the earlier strike from Aaron Dunsmore.

His all-round performance belied the fact that he had already grafted all day on the building site.

With the Championship side having been swept aside, the Hibs supporter is now turning his attention to the Tynecastle men.

He said: “It was a great result on Tuesday, obviously, because United are a good team.

“We are all part-time but we gave it our best and I’m delighted.

“I am labouring for a couple of brickies and was working from 8am until 3pm.

“I was tired and was falling asleep in the car on the way up to Tannadice.

“I guess you have to do what you have to do.

“I work Monday to Friday and I’m part time with East Fife.

“The work is based in Edinburgh but it can be all over. We just work wherever we have to work.

“I’m a Hibs fan so it should be good when we face Hearts on Saturday.

“I’ve never played against them in my career.

“I’ve never played against Hearts or Hibs before. If we go on to get Hibs then I’ll definitely be happy.

“My boss is a Hearts fan and he will be at the game.

“I’ve got him a ticket set aside.

“They are a really good side in the Premiership and we have to try and do what we did against United – defend well and hope something comes up on the counter attack.

“It’s on our Astro pitch so anything can happen. We just need to show the same desire we did at Tannadice and see what happens.

“Everyone is confident after the last win and we’ll just go on to Saturday and give it our best.”
