Comment: Another shrewd signing by Dundee boss Paul Hartley

Kevin Gomis in the thick of the action.

Dundee boss Paul Hartley was possibly being a bit greedy when he said he felt his side deserved to take all three points on Saturday – I certainly thought a draw was a fair result.

Motherwell took the game by the scruff of the neck in the first half but failed to capitalise while the Dark Blues were by far the better side after the break.

Faissal El Bakhtaoui was chosen to lead the line for Dundee and he caught the eye with some sublime touches, direct running and it is surely only a matter of time before he starts getting the goals his overall play deserve.

However, it was another summer signing, French centre-half Kevin Gomis, who really stood out.

On this evidence, the former Nice defender looks another shrewd signing by the manager with Gomis proving a dominating presence at the back, making crucial interventions as well as being composed on the ball.

It was no surprise to hear Hartley afterwards remarking that the defender had “strolled” through the game and he and Darren O’Dea already have the makings of a solid partnership for the Dark Blues.

While the manager admitted that he was pleased with the clean sheet and taking a point at a difficult place like Motherwell, it is slightly worrying that Dundee have now drawn their last two games.

Too many stalemates ultimately cost them dear last season and while it is still early days, Hartley will be hoping his players can ditch the draws and find a ruthless killer instinct.
