Dundee’s Paul McGowan laments heart-breaking result

Rangers' Harry Forrester celebrates his late goal.
Rangers' Harry Forrester celebrates his late goal.

Paul McGowan insists Dundee deserved at least a draw against Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday.

The Dark Blues defended as if their lives depended on it in Glasgow, while trying to hit Mark Warburton’s side on the break.

The game plan looked to have worked at treat with scores level as the clock ticked past the 90th minute.

Dundee seemed certain to take a well-deserved point from the game only to be cruelly denied at the death when Harry Forrester popped up with a late, late winner.

And McGowan admitted that had left the Dundee players heart-broken.

He said: “I’m just gutted for the boys. They put so much into the game. I felt our game plan was working.

“They were getting frustrated and the crowd were getting on their back. We had chances as well.

“You need to keep going here until the final whistle and it’s a poor goal but I can’t fault the boys.

“Honestly, from where we’ve come in the last couple of weeks, it’s just night and day. I’m proud of them.

“In the first half, they were getting down the side a wee bit. We spoke about it at half-time and we kind of nullified it. That’s their strength. Their two full-backs just keep bombing on and they interchange.

“They’re a good team who pass the ball well. Coming here and losing 1-0 is no disgrace but I felt we did enough to nick something.

“That’s the luck that we’ve had. We’ve come off two good wins. I at least thought we deserved a draw.

“Maybe a draw would have been a fair result. It’s heart-breaking.”
