Jack Ross has issued a statement which appears to reinforce his commitment to St Mirren – but does not categorically say he is staying with the Paisley club.
Dundee are doing their best to persuade the Buddies boss to take over from Neil McCann, and have put together a financial package that would substantially increase his wages.
Ross is currently on a family holiday but Saints have played hardball from the moment the Dark Blues made a formal approach.
And now the Ross statement has been put out on the Championship side’s official website.
Saints fans will see it as an indicator that the former Alloa manager is going to stay but it is ambiguous enough to give him wriggle room.
The Ross statement says: “Following speculation regarding my position as the manager of the club, I can confirm that I remain focused on continuing to build on the momentum we created in the second half of last season.
“James (assistant manager, James Fowler) and I have put in a lot of hard work already and will continue to do so as we strive to prepare a squad capable of challenging in what will be a hugely competitive and demanding Championship.
“It remains my responsibility to reward the loyalty and passion of our supporters with a team which they can be proud of.”
