Two Scotts will be at the forefront of Csaba Laszlo’s mind as he finalises his squad for today’s Tannadice clash with Inverness Caley Thistle.
First he will decide whether or not creative force Scott Fraser can get a seat on the bench after showing he’s recovered from the broken foot suffered at St Mirren at the end of December.
Then Csaba will choose whether or not Scott McDonald’s impressive performance when he came on in Tuesday’s win at Queen of the South should elevate him to the starting line-up.
Taking Fraser first, Csaba is delighted to report the 22-year-old playmaker is back training normally after that second metatarsal fracture in under a year.
He’s had no game time, but is desperate to get back into the action and his manager is mindful of that.
“Scott Fraser is training with the team fully. He has trained with the Development team already but now he has trained with the first team for two days,” said Csaba.
“The injury is over. They took the screw out that was put in first time he broke his foot and now there is no pain and he is fine.
“Maybe I will put him on the bench, maybe not, it depends on how he feels and I will see.”
And veteran McDonald’s reaction to being dropped to the bench has made Csaba give serious consideration to recalling him to the starting XI.
“He saw that he lost his place in the first XI but his reaction was fantastic,” he added.
“He came into the game on Tuesday and I had not seen before how speedy he is. This reaction is fantastic because it is what I want.
“The senior players have a duty to show the right way. I think his was a positive reaction and he is useful for the team with this attitude.”
Danish striker Emil Lyng could also be involved today, though with plenty options available to him and a hectic schedule coming up, he may be given another few days to completely recover from the leg injury he picked up at Livingston three weeks ago.
“With Lyng there is a question mark because now we have enough bodies and I don’t want to push him back in too early.
“Even against Queen of the South he told me he was OK to play but I might give him some more time because we have many games coming up.”
