It is hoped a new Ford dealership costing £4.5 million will open in Dundee this year.

The new purpose-built showroom at Baird Avenue will create around 25 jobs.

Your Ford Centre are behind the plans, a family-owned group who already represent Ford in Cupar, Kirkcaldy, Dalkeith and Peebles.

It is the second dealership to submit plans to Dundee City Council for the former Tesco depot site off the Kingsway.

John Clark Motor Group is looking to create a neighbouring showroom on the east end of the 10-acre site.

The land has been empty since the warehouse was demolished in 2019.

Prime site for Ford Dundee

Dalkeith Retail Centre managing director David Short said the showroom would be “state-of-the-art” and would include a workshop facility.

He said: “We are delighted to be Ford’s preferred operator for the area and very much look forward to becoming part of Dundee life.

“The site is in a prime location with great visibility, and we believe it will deliver a facility we can be proud of.

“It’s an ideal location and there will be generous space to allow a comprehensive display of new and used cars for the people of Dundee and the surrounding area.”

The company has been given an indication from the local authority that planning approval is “imminent”.

Work would start on the site early this year, with completion scheduled for the summer.

It will offer the full New Ford car range, as well as more than 100 used car and commercial vehicles.

The site will also contain a six-bay workshop and MOT facility.

Shift to EV vehicles

Trading as the Dundee Ford Centre, the company plans to support community initiatives. Your Ford Centre recently won a Scottish Motor Trade Association award for community activity.

Jarvis Simpson, zone sales manager at Ford Motor Company, said: “We are excited to have Your Ford Centre move into Dundee.

“The city has great low carbon and green energy standards.

“This will help support Ford’s shift into EV vehicles such as the Mustang Mach-E and Puma over the next years.

“With many years of Ford experience, Your Ford Centre will bring their commitment to service excellence to Dundee and the surrounding area.”
