Far more than shrubbery and seeds, garden centres across Tayside and Fife often make a great day out.

And with summer drawing closer, many are preparing to get their gardens looking their best.

To help you, green-fingered readers from across Tayside and Fife have shared their favourite garden centres.

We have pulled together some of those recommendations below.

1. Fairley’s Garden Centre

Main Street, Cairneyhill, Fife

This Fife garden centre is a hit with readers of The Courier, with many recommending it.

The family-run business has been on the go for more than 60 years, with customers praising the shop as “well-stocked” with healthy plants.

As well as garden supplies there is a cafe and ladies’ boutique.

Opening times: 8am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday.

2. Glendoick Garden Centre

With its recently renovated food hall, Glendoick Garden Centre – in operation for 50 years – is another popular destination among locals.

Voted UK Garden Centre of the Year four times, the shop has a popular cafe serving up fresh soup and sweet treats prepared using local ingredients.

Opening times: 9am to 5pm Monday to Sunday.

3. Jamesfield Garden Centre

Abernethy, Perthshire, KY14 6EW

Found between Newburgh and Abernethy, Jamesfield Garden Centre in Perthshire has a cornucopia of plants as well as gifts and garden furniture.

A well-reviewed restaurant and farm shop can also be found next door to the centre, with a range of organic produce on sale.

Opening times: 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Sunday.

4. Brechin Castle Garden Centre

Brechin, Angus

Set in the picturesque surroundings of a 70-acre country park, Brechin Castle Garden Centre has everything you need to add a splash of colour to your garden.

Those with pets can also stock up during a visit, with a range of treats and toys on sale.

5. Bridgend Garden Centre

The family-run Bridgend Garden Centre in Freuchie opened in 1986 and has grown into one of the most popular in the kingdom.

Praised for a high-standard of customer service, locals say the staff are always happy to provide advice.

As well the shop, gardening enthusiasts can visit the shop and cafe, which serves breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea daily.

The garden centre also has an online store.

Opening times: 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 6pm on Sunday.

6. The Botanist and The Bee

If you do not have a garden but still want to add some greenery to your life, then The Botanist and Bee indoor plant shop is likely to be perfect for you.

As well as a range of plants and homewares, the store also also runs classes showing novices how to repot their houseplants.

Opening times: 11am to 5pm Monday to Saturday.

7. The Plant Market

Another garden centre popular with green-fingered Fifers, The Plant Market stocks a wide range of garden products and a huge choice of flowers and plants.

The shop also specialises in working sustainably, with eco-friendly products on sale alongside a pot recycling centre.

Opening times: 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

8. Ashbrook Nursery

This family-run business has been attracting keen gardeners for more than 30 years.

The centre says it prides itself on its wide range of plants and grows more than 2,000 varieties on site.

It also offers a cafe and gift shop.
