An Angus music school has been keeping the local community entertained by hosting concerts and live quizzes.

Students of Red Rock Music in Arbroath, run by husband and wife Rebecca and Scott Burrell,  showcased their talent in a virtual concert after a planned Abbey Theatre show was cancelled due to the coronavirus.

The school has been giving one-to-one tuition on drums, guitar, vocals and piano through Zoom as students recorded their performance from the comfort of their own homes.

The concert raised almost £100 for vulnerable and key workers in Arbroath.

“We decided we still wanted our students to have the opportunity to perform and showcase their hard work over the last year so we did the concert on our Facebook page,” Rebecca said.

“The students sent in their clips and Scott pieced it together and hosted it live and we also managed to raise £87 for Frontline Foods in the process and we hope to raise more as we’re volunteering in our local area.

“It’s really important for our students to keep practising and I think that a lot of parents really appreciate that there’s still regular tuition each week.

“We hope that we’re building a sense of community and we want to help people be able to play or listen to something musical during this time to lift their spirits.”

Rebecca, 36, and Scott, 38, are also professional musicians and have been delighting the local community with weekly concerts of their own after their gigs were cancelled for the year.

The couple have also been hosting regular quiz nights to entertain locals and encourage participants to dress up for the themed events.

Rebecca added: “Scott and I do our live gigs every Friday and it’s just a bit of fun and we always get the same people who tune in every week and we’re building a connection and brightening people’s evening.

“We’ll just keep going until we’re able to do it in real life again.

“The lockdown also meant we weren’t able to do our quiz night that we’d arranged at the centre so we hosted it online and got such an amazing response that we’ve done one almost every week.”
