A “violent and controlling” Angus domestic abuser has been jailed for a six-month catalogue of historic offences against his ex- partner.
Stephen Cameron’s offences included headbutting the woman and twisting her thumb so viciously she was off work for days.
The terrified victim plucked up the courage to report the incidents to police because she was fearful of Cameron’s early release from a six-year prison sentence.
Her bravery led to the Forfar 28-year-old being refused parole and he has now had nine months added to the jail term after social workers described Cameron as a serious risk to any woman with whom he is involved.
Forfar Sheriff Court heard Cameron’s former partner had ended her relationship with the accused in May 2018 after he was jailed and in October that year, went to Forfar police office to report the historical incidents of domestic abuse.
They revolved around Cameron’s controlling jealousy. In one July 2016 offence at a Forfar nightclub he headbutted her in the face after accusing her of having sex with someone else because she had spent too long at the bathroom.
In another attack after they had been at the same venue he again headbutted her before grabbing her by the hair and punching her in the face as they walked home.
Cameron, of HMP Dumfries, admitted four offences of domestic abuse between July 2016 and January 2017.
Sheriff Derek Reekie told Cameron: “You pled guilty to offences which demonstrated a course of violent and controlling conduct and the only explanation is that you were drunk – that’s no excuse.
“Though I’m told you’re now apologetic the author of the (social work) report tells me you showed little insight and a lack of victim empathy or remorse.
“At the heart of it is that you present a serious risk to any woman you are in a relationship with.
“The nature of the conduct over six months was extremely violent.”
