This picturesque Angus farmhouse could be yours for £1 – and plenty of elbow grease

If the offer of a new home in the picturesque Angus Glens for £1 sounds too good to be true, it may because it comes with a catch.

The four-bedroomed property by Kirriemuir, which is being marketed by Bell Ingram, has been described as “perfectly suited to those who love a challenge”.

The successful applicant must enter into an agreement with the owners to renovate the property to “an agreed standard” in order to be quids in.

The house needs considerable renovation

In exchange for the agreed renovation programme, the tenant will be guaranteed a long-term £1 per annum lease to use the property as a second/holiday home.

They will not own the property after all their hard work but estate agent Bell Ingram said bargain hunters searching for a perfect country holiday home would be “hard pressed to find a better property than picturesque Glen Moy farmhouse”.

Alison Lowson from Bell Ingram said: “In exchange for the agreed renovation programme, the tenant will be guaranteed a long-term lease to use the 100-year-old property as a second/holiday home.”

She said the four-bedroom property would be an “ideal family home” with “a large garden to the front and side, blending in seamlessly with the beautiful natural environment.”

Glen Moy is located on the private Airlie Estate on the outskirts of Cortachy.

The garden ends where the Burn of Glen Moy rushes down to join the River South Esk at nearby Cortachy Castle but could, by arrangement, be extended.

In a nod to the farmhouse’s original role, to the rear of the building there are large farm sheds and pens which are used by Airlie Estate’s sheep enterprise.

Interested parties have been invited to submit their details and outline proposals to the letting agents.
