Wednesday court round-up — Fife MP ‘death threat’

A man has appeared in court accused of making threats to kill a Fife politician.

William Love is said to have repeatedly made calls to Glenrothes MP Peter Grant in which he threatened his life.

The 62-year-old denies behaving in a threatening and abusive manner towards staff at Mr Grant’s Glenrothes office by repeatedly calling asking to speak or meet with him, swearing at them, and leaving voicemail messages for Mr Grant in which he made threatening remarks and threatened to kill him.

He is further accused of sending sexual messages to two women, which contained a photo of genitals, between March and November 2019.

He is also alleged to have made threats to them both.

Further charges allege threatening and abusive behaviour towards two further women, breaching bail and assaulting another woman.

Love will appear again before the court next month.

Fiend on fiend

A jailed predator from Fife who slashed a “sexual fiend” in the showers of a top security Scottish prison has been jailed for a further two years. James Paterson, who tried to murder three pregnant women – raping two of them – and assaulted a newborn baby, hacked at the face of triple-rapist John Macintosh in Glenochil Prison, Clackmannanshire, leaving him permanently disfigured.

‘Scared’ M90 speeder banned

A woman who was charged with “racing” her boyfriend along the M90 at speeds of more than 100mph has been banned from driving.

Mother-of-four Laura Colquhoun and her then-partner were both clocked hurtling down the motorway, near Milnathort, in March last year.

Colquhoun, from Aberfeldy, was originally accused by prosecutors of racing her Volkswagen Touran against her boyfriend, who was in a Ford Focus.

The allegation was dropped by the Crown when she pled guilty to a charge of dangerous driving by travelling at excessive speeds, overtaking other vehicles on the inside lane and failing to adjust her speed to road conditions.

Perth Sheriff Court heard she had regretted getting behind the wheel after a row with her boyfriend and had only done so “out of fear”.

Solicitor Laura Campbell said: “She does understand the seriousness of this offence.

“She has four children and a ban would make life very difficult for her.”

Sheriff David Hall told Colquhoun: “I’ll give you some credit for pleading guilty on the morning of your trial but this was an extremely bad piece of driving.”

Colquhoun, of Duntaylor Avenue, was fined £500 and disqualified from driving for 15 months.

Hate-filled rant

Spitting Shannon McGregor called a police officer the racial slur “Malteser” during a bigoted outburst in Dundee. The 25-year-old described another officer as a “beastly p**f”.

Shannon McGregor admitted the rant at Dundee’s Police HQ.

Sex assault spotted on CCTV

A creep who sexually assaulted a woman at a Perthshire house party has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

Cosmin Chesnoiu was caught on CCTV molesting the woman as she lay passed out in the back of her boyfriend’s car.

Her partner was horrified to see the attack when he played back the footage.

Chesnoiu, 36, previously admitted the assault on the 30-year-old at a property in Rattray on April 24.

The court heard Chesnoiu, of High Street, Rattray, was seen on film kissing the woman and groping a breast, while he was topless.

Solicitor Mike Tavendale, defending, said: “This is a somewhat unusual case.

“My client’s position is quite clear: There had been a relationship of sorts between him and the woman.

“The complaint in this case did not come from the complainer but it came from her boyfriend.”

Sheriff David Hall told Chesnoiu: “This is still a serious matter.

“Your behaviour that night was simply not acceptable.”

Chesnoiu was placed on supervision and the Register for six months.

Train passenger racist

Gavin Laing, 47, from Edinburgh, racially abused and threatened Thai rail passengers for speaking their own language on a train from Dundee. He repeatedly told the pair to talk in English and then made threats as other people stepped in during the journey through Fife.

Gavin Laing leaves Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.
