A father-of-two caught with images of child abuse has been banned from being alone with his own children.

Steven Riddell also sent filthy videos to an undercover police officer posing as a 13-year-old girl.

At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court he was told by a sheriff he had “destroyed his own life” after being caught with the haul.

She banned the 31-year-old from contact with children under 16.

However she made an exception for him to be around his own children, provided his wife or another suitable adult is present.

Offered vouchers for naked snaps

Riddell, of Demarco Drive, Glenrothes, was caught with the foul images at his home on May 27 last year.

Experts found 15 videos at category A and B, a pair of Snapchat images at category C and 24 thumbnail images across all three categories.

He had also been conversing with an undercover police officer posing as a teenage girl called Ava.

Between March and May last year he sent naked pictures of his body and genitals to the “girl”, as well as inappropriate messages and videos of a sex act.

The court had previously heard he had used website TeenChat – for 13-to-19-year-olds –  to strike up conversation with an account named “AvaBabes”.

He used Snapchat to ask the girl to send full-body naked pictures in exchange for money and offered £10 via PayPal or in Amazon vouchers.

At the previous hearing at the court he had admitted both charges.

‘Destroyed your family’s life’

Sentencing , Sheriff Elizabeth McFarlane told Riddell he was the author of his own misfortune.

She said: “It has destroyed not just your own life but your family’s life.

“But the report is clear that you are working to get help for this and you are remorseful.

“And you understand that the behaviour you carried out was unacceptable.”

Solicitor Dewar Spence, defending, said: “He’s fully complied, he’s fully accepted responsibility and is fully willing to take the punishment.”

He asked that the court make exceptions to the ban on contact with children to allow him to see his own children, albeit under supervision.

Sheriff McFarlane placed Riddell under supervision for two years, during which time he must also sign the Sex Offenders Register.

He must also undertake 200 hours of unpaid work.
