A Fife man has been found guilty of killing a cyclist in an early morning smash on a notorious Kingdom road.
David McGregor, 48, was convicted by a jury at the High Court in Dundee of causing the death of William Crawford in 2019.
McGregor was immediately disqualified from driving by Lady Wade after a jury found him unanimously responsible for killing Mr Crawford by careless driving.
He collided with him on the A913 Cupar to Newburgh road shortly after 6.45am on September 26.
Mr Crawford was pedalling a mountain bike, about half a mile east of the A92 Parbroath crossroads.
The 54-year-old died two days later from his injuries at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
McGregor, of Gallows Knowe, Crossgates, was found guilty of driving his Volkswagen Crafter van without due care and attention, failing to maintain proper observations and making suitable reactions to the presence of other road users.
The charge states he caused his vehicle to collide with William Crawford on the roadway, where he was so severely injured he died from his injuries on a later date at Ninewells Hospital.
Sentencing next month
Police initially could not identify Mr Crawford following the incident and appealed to the public for information.
McGregor, flanked by two court security guards, kept his head bowed as the verdict was read out.
His bail was continued and he will be sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on October 28.
McGregor’s defence KC, John Scullion, said he would save mitigation until that date but wanted to put on record his client’s remorse and apologies to Mr Crawford’s family.
