A top NHS oncology consultant from Fife who admitted assaulting his wife over her extra-marital affair has been given an absolute discharge.

It means Dr Devraj Srinivasan left Dunfermline Sheriff Court without punishment.

The court had earlier heard the couple had been having an argument about divorce proceedings and Srinivasan, 42, of Magnus Drive, Dunfermline, struck the woman with his hand to her back and the back of her head, near her neck.

She was not injured.

When she phoned police, he said: “I confess to what happened, come and arrest me.”

First offender Srinivasan works with NHS Lothian.

An absolute discharge is generally given when the sheriff deems appearing at court has been punishment enough. The recipient still has a criminal record.

Ketamine driver

Motorist Liam Stark was snorting ketamine with a female passenger on a Fife country road before writing off his car in a crash. Stark, 21, of Lochgelly, was unconscious and trapped in the vehicle near Knockhill. He admitted driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

Knuckleduster ‘moron’

A Fife teenager was caught with a knuckleduster at Kirkcaldy train station on February 4 this year.

Procurator fiscal depute Rachel Hill told Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court after being found with the weapon, Murdo Freil was taken by police to Victoria Hospital and suffered a seizure.

The fiscal depute said the 18-year-old then made abusive comments to staff, such as: “Touch me and you will go to the jail, you wait and see”.

Asked by Sheriff Timothy Niven-Smith if Freil’s seizure was related to drug use, defence lawyer David McLaughlin said this was suspected but he did not know.

As well as weapon possession, Freil, of High Street, Strathmiglo also admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards police and medical staff on February 5.

He shouted, swore, made threats and uttered homophobic remarks.

Sheriff Niven-Smith told Freil medical staff had to take time out of dealing with other patients to “deal with you being a moron”.

He added: “It is noted, however, you are exceedingly young and immature and there are a number of issues detailed (in a social work report).”

The sheriff gave Freil a structured deferred sentence for three months to receive guidance to reduce the risk of reoffending.

With reference to sentencing guidelines on people under 25, the sheriff told Freil had he been an older adult he would be considering a custodial sentence.

Drugs fall-out

Dundee woman Claire Lizanec left a friend permanently impaired after chasing and stabbing him repeatedly after they fell out over a cocaine purchase. He has been left with pins and needles in his hand and a loss of ability to grip.

Drunken push

Dundee man Steven Cameron, 22, has been fined for pushing his girlfriend’s friend in an drunken argument.

He admitted assaulting the woman on March 5 on Reform Street, outside the Counting House bar in Dundee.

Cameron had been arguing with his partner at 1am, when the woman became involved, Dundee Sheriff Court heard.

Depute fiscal Lee Corr said Cameron’s push caused the woman to “stumble and fall over” and she “sustained a graze on her right knee”.

“Cameron left and the police were called and carried out investigations.

Defence solicitor Theo Finlay, said: “The witness is the accused’s girlfriend.

“He thought she (the complainer) should not be involved, he pushed her to get her out of his personal space.”

Cameron, of North Wellington Street, was fined a total of £320.

Halloween horror

A schoolboy lost nearly half a pint of blood following a horror Halloween stabbing in Perth.

The 15-year-old was slashed three times with a pair of scissors during the assault on Moncrieffe Island.

Reece Duncan attacked his victim on Moncrieffe Island.

His attacker Reece Duncan was said to be “out of control” on tonic wine that evening.

Duncan, 18, has been given a final chance by Perth Sheriff Court to avoid being locked up.

Cruel beast jailed

A Kinross man who sexually assaulted a pregnant woman and her teenage sister has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

Jack Millard cruelly asked the woman “Does it hurt? Does it? Good” during one of the attacks at a property in Kirkcaldy.

At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court he was jailed for 40 months.

She will be supervised after release for a period of 12 months and must stay away from his victims for almost two years.

On a previous court date, Millard admitted violently attacking a woman on various occasions between 2017 and 2019 at a property in Edinburgh, including when she was pregnant, and leaving her injured.

He also admitted stalking the woman over the same two years, shouting, swearing and calling her names.

At a property in Kirkcaldy, Millard admitted he sexually assaulted her and abused the woman’s teenage sister two months later.

He also pled guilty to an assault on a crying one-year-old boy in May 2019 while he was in a taxi in Edinburgh by covering his nose and mouth with his hands.
