Emergency services had to close roads in Arbroath after a man barricaded himself in a room in his flat and began making threats.

Crews spent around four hours at Keptie Road on November 20 when Ryan Gilmartin kicked off.

The 28-year-old admitted behaving aggressively towards his partner and shouted, swore and made threats of violence towards her.

He punched walls and threw items around, before engaging in a struggle with the woman and seizing her by the neck.

Gilmartin continued to behave in a threatening manner by claiming he was in possession of weapons and would use them to harm himself or others.

The 52-year-old appeared at Perth Sheriff Court for sentencing, having previously admitted being at a Tulloch Road property on October 28 last year, with intent to steal.

Racist outburst at surgery

A Montrose woman has been fitted with an electronic tag after a racist outburst at a doctor.

Sarah Platt was sentenced at Forfar Sheriff Court after admitting acting in a threatening or abusive manner.

Platt created a commotion at the Annat Bank Practice at Montrose’s Links Health Centre at around 10am on September 8.

The mum of four shouted “f***ing useless P*ki b*****d” as she left.

The remark was not in earshot of the doctor who she had consulted with but colleagues who heard it were concerned and called police.

Solicitor Nick Markowski said she is not welcome back at the practice.

Sheriff Krista Johnston told Platt: “You’re 41 years of age, you should know better than behave in this way.”

Unemployed Platt, of Glenisla Road, was placed on a 7pm to 7am restriction of liberty order for four months.

A Perth taxi driver has been cleared of causing a disturbance at his mother-in-law’s house.

Alasdair Fleming went on trial accused of thumping and kicking at the front door of the Bute Drive property in August.

It was alleged he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, likely to cause fear or alarm.

Perth Sheriff William Wood found him not guilty after evidence from Mr Fleming’s wife, her friend and a neighbour.

Under cross-examination by solicitor David Holmes, his wife admitted she had asked prosecutors not to proceed with the case.

Sheriff Wood told 38-year-old Fleming: “I am not satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that you committed this crime.”
