An Arbroath man has admitted stealing electronics from his partner and taking out a secret payday loan in her name.

Gavin Anderson appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court to admit the thefts and concocting the fraudulent scheme.

Between August 24 last year and March 3, he stole a dartboard and darts as well as an iPad tablet, an Amazon Echo Dot and mail from his partner.

And between November 3 last year until the same date in March, Anderson took out a £300 payday loan from Quidmarket Loan Company but applied for the loan in the name of his partner.

The money was transferred into a joint account and he quickly removed it.

All the offences took place at a flat in Arbroath’s High Street.

33-year-old Anderson, of Millgate in Arbroath, will be sentenced on February 2 after reports have been prepared.

Previous offences linked to gambling habit

At a hearing in March this year, gambling addict Anderson admitted he stole a laptop and bank card from his girlfriend to feed his habit.

On that occasion, he used the card to withdraw £300 from a TSB cashpoint in Arbroath.

The court heard he also took his partner’s Macbook laptop from her home in High Street, Arbroath sometime in January this year and helped himself to her bankcard on February 27.

Speaking then, solicitor Billy Rennie said: “This is related to a gambling addiction.

“The relationship now seems to be over.”

Speaking in the springtime, Sheriff Derek Reekie told Anderson: “There clearly needs to be some kind of intervention and input from the social work department to identify an appropriate disposal.”
