Thief tracked on Facebook
A Dundee thief who stole a wallet from an unlocked car and used it in a city convenience store has been jailed for six months.
Alex Westwater, 42, was identified following a Facebook appeal and has been locked up after admitting the February 26 offence.
He appeared from custody pled guilty to the theft of the wallet and its contents and to fraudulently using the bank card.
Fiscal depute Larissa Milligan explained the card’s owner had left his vehicle when he visited family on Strathmartine Road at around 2.45pm.
A short time later, he received a notification on his phone to say his card had been used.
After realising the wallet was not in the car, the man made his way to Downfield Mini Market and spoke with staff at the Teviotdale Avenue shop.
They showed him CCTV and he took a photograph of Westwater spending £17.90 on goods and cashback.
Mr Devine posted the image on social media and received multiple comments confirming Westwater’s identity.
Westwater, of Brewery Lane, was on multiple bail orders at the time of the offence.
Nightmare neighbour
A Perth city centre council tenant trashed his flat, forcing part of his block to become condemned. Andrew Dawson, 25, caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to his home in St Catherine’s Square, then demanded the council give him a new flat, telling them: “I’ll destroy that as well”.
Guest house stalker
Fife guest house owner Anthony Foulds has been fined for stalking his former partner.
Foulds, who runs the Forth Bay Guest House in Leven, was found guilty after trial of repeatedly attending the woman’s place of work, making enquiries about her and loitering outside, repeatedly trying to phone her and sending texts, all in the knowledge she did not want contact.
The offending took place on occasions between July 30 and August 7 2020.
His victim told the trial at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court she had told Foulds not to contact her after ending their relationship of less than a year.
The woman said at one point, he turned up outside the care home at which she worked and hid behind a wall next to a smoking shelter where she had been with two colleagues.
The woman overheard Foulds asking the colleagues to help find her and telling them she had agreed to “meet up for lunch”.
The woman said she had never told Foulds she worked there.
A short time before, she had been walking back from a shop during her lunch break and noticed Foulds brake his car as it passed, prompting her to run back to work.
She said she saw Foulds later that day from the dining room walking a dog in the care home gardens.
A chef at the care home also told the trial she saw Foulds from the kitchen windows walking a dog “three or four times” past the building and “looking through all the windows at the back of the building”.
The victim said Foulds sent numerous texts and emails despite her telling him previously she did not want to be contacted.
Sheriff James Williamson found him guilty of engaging in a course of conduct which caused the woman fear or alarm.
The sheriff fined him £400 and made a non-harassment order.
