A Dundee man glassed his all-day drinking companion in an apparently unprovoked attack in a city nightclub.

Darren Worsley, 46, has been banned from Pout on St Andrews Street after he smashed a glass tumbler into Dean McLaren’s face on September 5 2022.

Worsley, who has five previous convictions for assault, had been with Mr McLaren and two others during a lengthy drinking session, Dundee Sheriff Court was told.

The group travelled to Pout and continued drinking before, at around 3am Worsley launched his pint glass into Mr McLaren’s face.

Depute fiscal Christine Allan told the court: “Mr McLaren was standing at the bar, the accused was holding a pint glass.

“He struck Mr McLaren in the face with the glass.”

Worsley was ordered to leave by security staff and an ambulance was called to attend Mr McLaren after police spotted him, injured, on the street.

He had cuts to his eye, cheek, ear and head. He was scarred.

Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown deferred sentence until April 26 and called for reports after .
Worsley, of Balloter Place, admitted assault to severe injury and permanent disfigurement, while on bail.

Sex pest

A sex pest who assaulted four teenagers as a female and struggled with police as a male, has been jailed. Luke Spencer was a 20-year-old woman known as Krista when the offender seized and kissed a teenage girl at Glenrothes bus station, slapped another’s buttocks in Dunfermline and groped two more youngsters after drinking with them.

Sick stash

A man who admitted distributing child abuse files from his home in Burntisland has been sentenced.

Andrew Bonnar admitted taking or making disgusting images between March 19 2020 and September 15 2021 when he earlier appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.

The 23-year-old also admitted distributing or showing vile photographs or pseudo-photographs from his Dick Crescent home between June 25 and August 15 2021.

When he returned to the dock for sentencing, fiscal depute Alistair McDermid read some of the grotesquely graphic names of files recovered.

One was a compilation of children being abused and lasted just over an hour.

Others included children sexually abusing each other and being raped by adults.

Solicitor David Cranston said: “He presents as a normal young man who obviously has skeletons in his closet that he’s struggling to deal with.”

Sheriff Robert More placed Bonnar under supervision for two years and on the Sex Offenders Register for as long.

He also ordered Bonnar to complete 240 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months and instructed him to complete the Moving Forward: Making Changes programme aimed at rehabilitating sex offenders.

The order was made as a direct alternative to custody.

Speeding while awaiting death trial

Ex-footballer Craig Smart, whose careless driving killed a former soldier in Fife, committed three separate speeding offences while awaiting trial over the death. The former Montrose striker hit David McArthur with his van in Cardenden in 2019. After being charged and bailed, he was caught speeding twice in July 2021 and again in January 2022.

‘Bogging’ bite

A St Andrews thug who bit a police officer told him it was “bogging” after his teeth pierced his skin.

Jason-Lee Jack had made a half-attempt at escape after police turned up at his house in November 2021.

The bitten PC had to undergo six months of blood tests to make sure he had not contracted any viruses, Dundee Sheriff Court was told.

In the back of the police van on his way to the custody unit, Jack apologised, saying “when I felt my teeth pierce his skin it was bogging. Tell him I’m sorry.”

Depute fiscal Christine Allan told the court police found Jack in his bedroom at the Watson Avenue address and he bit one as they restrained him.

She said: “It broke the skin.

“The officer shouted ‘stop’ and hit the accused on the back of the head in an attempt to free his arm.

“He suffered a significant bite, which was bleeding.

“The accused was cautioned and charged and responded ‘he punched me’.”

Jack admitted assault to severe injury and will be sentenced next month.
