Dundee pervert had more than 45,000 indecent images of children

Dundee Sheriff Court.
Dundee Sheriff Court.

A 58-year-old computer and maths graduate amassed a sick stash of more than 45,000 indecent images of children across several devices over a seven-year period.

Ian Stevenson, of Main Street in Dundee, admitted taking, or permitting to be taken, indecent photographs or pseudo photographs of children between April 8 2005 and March 12 2012 at an address in the city.

He also admitted a second charge of possessing indecent images of children between January 10 2011 and March 19 2012 at the same address.

Procurator fiscal Stewart Duncan said: “On May 3 Police Scotland received intelligence of offences being committed at the locus.

“As a result they applied for a search warrant and on May 9 the warrant was executed.

“A systematic search of the locus was carried out and a number of electronic devices were recovered.

“When asked if he knew anything about computers, he (the accused) stated he had degrees in computers and mathematics.

“He stated that the devices belonged to him and that he would be responsible for them.”

A total of 45,506 indecent images on computers and external hard drives were discovered as a result of the search.

Some of the images were no longer accessible.

The court heard that unemployed Stevenson was “co-operative” with the investigation and that this was the first time he had come to the attention of the police.

Sentencing was deferred until February 26 for criminal justice and social work reports and Stevenson’s bail was continued.

He was put on the sex offenders’ register for an unspecified length of time, which will be clarified at the time of sentencing.
