A retired businessman who drove off after crashing into two parked cars has been allowed to keep driving at the age of 91 despite hearing, sight and walking problems.
James Hamilton, who turns 92 in a week, struck two cars as he tried and failed to park his Audi A4 Allroad Sport at a beauty spot.
A court was told he damaged a Vauxhall Insignia and a BMW 520D in the car park at the Hermitage in Dunkeld before leaving the scene.
Hamilton, who owned a Paisley-based company which employed 100 people in the shipbuilding industry, told the court he suffered from glaucoma but still felt fit to drive.
Depute fiscal Robbie Brown told Perth’s justice of the peace court: “There were vehicles parked either side of the space he was trying to enter.
“He scraped one vehicle and caused damage and, as he tried to manoeuvre out and in again, he struck another vehicle.
“They were scraped and dented but he drove off.”
Solicitor Paul Coyle said: “He is a 91-year-old man. He was a successful businessman before his retirement. He ran a shipbuilding company for many years.”
JP Allan Robertson told Hamilton: “The doctor and ophthalmologist are both happy with your health as it stands.
“I want to make you aware that you are responsible for your actions on the road.”
He imposed five penalty points and fined Hamilton £180.
Hamilton, from Glasgow, admitted failing to stop and give his details after striking and damaging two cars at the hermitage in January.
