Camperdown Park’s big fundraising weekend for Cancer Research UK has got off to a fantastically filthy start.
More than 4,000 women signed up for Pretty Muddy Dundee – a 5k mud-filled obstacle course organisers said would “show cancer that hell hath no fury like a woman in pink”.
Kicking off the event as a VIP starter was Rachel Gibson, 29, who is living with breast cancer after being diagnosed three years ago.
Rachel, from Broughty Ferry said: “I have secondary breast cancer , which means I can’t be cured, as it has spread.
“The medicine I get now was not around before, and the fact that it’s around now is thanks to Cancer Research and all the work they do
“This gives people like me hope.
“For health reasons I can’t run the race, but I have a team, Team Prosecco, doing it on my behalf.”
This year marks the first time a Pretty Muddy event is being held in Dundee as part of the Race for Life weekend.
The mud element proved popular with Shona Robison MSP for Dundee East and her 13-year-old daughter Morag, who ran the course as a team and raised over £200.
Speaking before setting off, Ms Robison, Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Sport, said: “I’m excited and a little bit nervous.
“I’ve done the Race for Life before but never the muddy race.
“We’re doing it to have a bit of fun and raise money for a good cause.”
Morag added: “I made my mum sign up because I wanted to see her covered in mud!”

The fun run is followed on Sunday by the Race for Life 5k and 10k events.
