Former Dundee director Dave Forbes admits he is surprised to learn his beloved club may be on the move.
Dundee’s American owners have purchased land in Camperdown Park in the hope of building a new stadium.
The move follows the club’s successful bid to open a new multi-million pound training facility in Caird Park.
Mr Forbes, who served on the Dens Park club’s board until current owner Tim Keyes took over in 2013, admitted he knew nothing of the potential development.
The businessman, who runs a newsagent close to the Dark Blues’ home ground, said he fears local business – especially pubs – will suffer if the Dundee board press ahead with the club’s move.
Mr Forbes, who along with the late Maurice Kidd served as a fans’ representative on the board, revealed he feels the switch may have a similar impact on local business as Dundee United’s relegation from Scotland’s top flight.
“There’s not that many businesses around Dens, but a lot of fans already drive straight to the clubs,” he said.
“I’m not sure about local shops, but the pubs will probably notice a difference if it happens.”
Mr Forbes admits he had no knowledge of the switch.
He said: “It’s news to me. I didn’t know anything about it.
“People who come into my shop already can’t see how part of Caird Park, which is donated to the people of Dundee, can go to Dundee (FC).
“They’ll be wondering how it can happen with Campderdown too.”
If the move goes ahead it will end 107 years of history of both of Dundee’s clubs being located on the same street.
