Police are investigating the unexplained death of a man in a flat on Arbroath Road in Dundee.

The man’s body was found in a property at around lunchtime on Monday.

Emergency services including firefighters were called to the scene near Kemback Street, close to the junction with Victoria Street and Albert Street.

The age of the man has not been confirmed.

Man’s death being treated as unexplained

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were made aware of the sudden death of a man at a property on Arbroath Road in Dundee around 1.35pm on Monday.

“The death is being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing.”

One local resident said: “The first thing I was aware of was a fire engine going really quickly along Arbroath Road .

“It had its lights and siren on and was heading along Arbroath Road from the traffic lights at Albert Street.

“The next thing an ambulance and police also came with sirens and lights.

“They pulled up on to Kemback Street and went into the car park of a block of flats that look on to Arbroath Road.

Police officers went into the building but the ambulance was already there at that time.

“It definitely looked like something pretty serious was going on.

“When I walked past there was a police car outside, an ambulance in the car park and two police officers outside the building at the back.”

Fire service called to assist paramedics

The resident added: “That’s really upsetting to hear about the death.

“I never really see anyone going around here much but it’s so sad to hear that a person has died.

“Your thoughts are with the dead person’s family at a time like this. It’s so close to Christmas now which always seems to make it even more upsetting.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were asked by the Scottish Ambulance Service to go to an address on Arbroath Road.

“This is a police and ambulance matter so we can’t really comment any further at this stage, other than to say we sent one appliance.”
