Dundee community champion Stella Carrington has spoken of her pride after her years of voluntary work were recognised by the Queen.
Stella, 79, was presented with a British Empire Medal by Dundee Lord Provost Bob Duncan on Monday afternoon.
During the ceremony Mr Duncan praised Stella for her dedication to various local causes and revealed she is only the second Dundonian to claim such an award this year.
Despite her success, Stella is quick to dedicate her award to her fellow volunteers.
She revealed: “Of course I’m very pleased, but you never go into volunteering for this.
“You go into volunteering for the benefit of the community, to be a voice for the people who can’t speak for themselves
“I’m always looking forward to trying to make the whole of Dundee a better place
“A lot of agencies would fall flat on their face if it wasn’t for the people who come out day and night.”
Though she is looking forward to taking a well-earned break from voluntary work, Stella is adamant she will continue for as long as she can.
She said: “I must be coming towards the end of my time — I’m 80 next year.
“But I’ll continue for as long as I can and for as long as my husband doesn’t object.
“We’ve done tremendous things for the community.
“I’ve enjoyed every minute of it and am extremely proud of what we have been able to do.”
