Two new Oor Wullie and The Broons books are to go on sale next month offering insight into Scottish life and language. The pair of books, based on the two Sunday Post creations, come after a summer of revival for the characters. Oor Wullie has recently been seen across the country as part of the bucket trail, while The Broons have been brought to life for a touring stage play, which is in Dundee next week. Maw Broon’s Guide To Life offers advice from the family matriarch on a variety of subjects, including family, fashion and housekeeping. Meanwhile, Oor Wullie’s book provides translations to words and phrases used by the scamp in the comic strips. The books, published by Black & White Publishing, will appear on shelves from November 3. Some of the translations included in the Oor Wullie book are: A wee keek – A quick glance Gie them a dicht – Wipe them No as green as he’s cabbage-looking – Not as smart as he looks Jings! – My goodness! Crivvens! – I say! Help ma Boab! – Good grief!
