A Dundee fan who was escorted out of Tannadice after gaining “unauthorised access” to the ground claims he “just wanted to see a game of football”.

Darren Petrie, 34, was kicked out of United’s game against Kilmarnock on Wednesday night after stewards caught him hiding in a restricted area of the stadium.

The Dark Blues supporter jumped a wall at the back of the Shed to get in and was able to watch the match for 40 minutes.

He was only caught after a group of Kilmarnock supporters spotted him and started shouting in his direction.

Mr Petrie told us: “At the start of the game I jumped over the wall at the back of the Shed.

“I was standing in the corner and nobody saw me, but then someone started recording.

“I had tried to get in but I couldn’t get a ticket.”

He was jeered by Arabs as he was escorted out in his Dundee strip – however he insists he hadn’t given the outfit a second thought.

Mr Petrie added: “It doesn’t matter if you support Dundee or Dundee United, it’s a game of football, isn’t it?

“I just wanted to see a game of football.

“I was just watching, I definitely wasn’t planning to run on or anything like that.”

Videos of incident went viral

The incident went viral on social media, with videos being posted to Twitter and Facebook.

The attention has come as a bit of a shock to the Dee diehard, who isn’t sure what to think of it.

He said: “Well, I’ll be honest, I’ve got mental health and everything.

“My Facebook has been full for the past couple of days with all these messages coming through.

“It’s not really been anything bad, just people tagging me in it and that.

“I’m not really bothered by it.

“It was a bit of a shock for me. It’s funny, but it’s not funny, but it is funny – do you know what I mean?”

On Thursday, a Dundee United spokesperson said: “An individual who gained unauthorised access to the stadium was identified and then ejected from the stadium by our security staff.

“We consider the matter at an end.”
