VIDEO: “We need to move on” – Fans and locals have their say on plans for new Dundee FC stadium

Dundee FC fans and city residents have been having their say on proposals for a state-of-the-art new stadium for the club.

A public consultation into plans to relocate the club to land neighbouring the Camperdown Leisure Park was launched at the Dundee Ice Arena on Friday afternoon.

It comes after Dark Blue Properties Ltd and architects Leadingham Jameson Rogers and Hynd submitted a pre-application notice for a stadium and mixed-used development at the site last month.

The function room was packed with both fans and local residents keen to view the proposals and have their say.

The suggested layout of Dundee FC’s proposed new stadium at Camperdown.

Dundee business owner and Dark Blues fan Andy Hughes, 55, fully supports the bid to relocate his beloved club.

He said, should the move eventually go ahead, it would be “a sad day for me and lot of Dundee supporters”, adding: “But we need to move on”.

Fellow supporter Robin Grimmond, 63, said: “If you want to improve the crowd experience you have got to make better facilities and you’re not going to be able to do that at Dens unfortunately.”

However Dryburgh resident and former councillor Stewart Cunningham, 88, said he had reservations about the impact of the development on traffic.
