Record-breaker Mark Beaumont has led a band of cyclists on an gruelling journey in aid of a local children’s charity.
The group has embarked from Tayside Children’s Hospital this morning and will clock 129 miles as they make their way to the Highland Children’s Unit in Inverness.
And then after an overnight stay in the Highlands, the cyclists will add more miles to their journey as they head south to the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.
And they’re off! Good luck to all of our cyclists joining @MrMarkBeaumont on ARCHIE & Mark’s Big Bike Ride from Tayside Children’s Hospital to the Highland Children’s Unit before reaching Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital tomorrow. The 11 athletes have so far raised around £18,000 for The Archie Foundation, which helps sick children in hospital.
The cash will help give emergency grants to families struggling to make ends meet while their child is in hospital.
Archie patron Mark Beaumont, who holds the world record for cycling around the world in less than 79 days, said: “I have been really proud to have worked with Archie but this is the first time I’m doing something that I’m good at and getting back on my bike and leading a ride.
“This is no average ride, this is not just a pootle around Camperdown Park. This is a serious undertaking, well over 100 miles back-to-back.”
