Work to build nearly 120 new affordable homes for rent in the heart of Dundee’s waterfront will begin in the next few weeks.
The Hillcrest Housing Association properties will be constructed by developers Cullross at Victoria Dock in City Quay.
As well as 119 homes, a mixture of social housing and mid-market rental properties, there will also be ground floor retail space created across the two blocks.
There will be 53 houses for social rent with 66 available to the market.
Planning permission for the development was approved in December and work is ongoing to prepare for a site start in the next few weeks.
Ryan Fletcher of Cullross said:”“This is such an exciting opportunity to deliver new affordable homes in Dundee’s Waterfront, a stone’s throw from the V&A, with magnificent views on to the Tay and very close to the city centre amenities.
“It really will be a fantastic place to live.”
Hillcrest’s director of development, David Zwirlein, added: “Hillcrest are delighted to be developing 119 new affordable homes in a fantastic location on the Dundee waterfront.
“Right in the heart of the city’s wider waterfront redevelopment, these good quality homes will offer unrivalled views over the River Tay and back inland over the city and will come with the latest energy efficiency measures to help tenants save on bills.”
Each block will be six storeys tall.
The project originally included 122 flats, while the north block was intended to be seven storeys in height.
However, the scale of the project was reduced following negotiations between the developers and council officers.
The development will include storage for 120 bicycles and 119 car parking spaces.
Construction on Victoria Dock began in 1833 but was not completed until 1875.
It is one of Scotland’s largest enclosed docks and is now used as a marina.
Dundee’s waterfront is currently undergoing a £1 billion redevelopment.
The 30-year project is due to conclude in 2029.
